Tip 1: Ikigai

Ikigai is a Japanese concept that means "a reason for being". The reason that gets you out of bed every morning even when it cold and raining and grey yet again.

My reason for being is simple. I want to help people realise success is achievable today, you don't have to slave away for 40 years to get it. That's it. That's what gets me out of bed every morning. The notion that I am able to help at least one person take another step towards success.

You may wonder why my purpose isn't to achieve success in my own life. Well it's because I believe I've already found it. And there's no point enjoying this life alone, so I want to share my tips and resources with you too.

So how exactly can you work out your reason for being? And perhaps even more importantly, how can you check in and make sure you stay on track?

It's simple, follow the diagram.

Tip 2: Follow the 10 rules

Now that you've got the tools to find your Ikigai, how can you stay grounded in it?

It can be so easy especially when you're young to say yes to every opportunity and slowly but surely find yourself drifting further and further away from your true purpose. If this is you, try following the 10 rules below:

  1. Stay active and don't retire

  2. Leave urgency behind and adopt a slower pace of life

  3. Only eat until you're 80% full

  4. Surround yourself with good friends

  5. Get in shape through daily gentle exercise

  6. Smile and acknowledge people round you

  7. Reconnect with nature

  8. Give thanks to anything that brightens your day and makes you feel alive

  9. Live in the moment

  10. Follow your ikigai

Full disclaimer here, these rules come from the book "Ikigai" by Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles. But I've tried them, and they work. So even if you decide not to read the book, hopefully this should help.

Tip 3: Take time, enjoy life.

Whether you are reading this at age 20, 30, 50 or 90, trust me sometimes the best thing to do is to step back and relax.

Don't get me wrong, knowing your why is important, but if you spend so long fixating on one thing, you'll drive yourself crazy.

Breathe.

Take a step back.

Relax.
